Game Highlights
  • You win on a Combination Play ticket the same way as on a regular ticket. However, because you have multiple selections, you can win multiple prizes!
  • You can play eight- and nine-number Combination Plays.
  • Your Combination Play numbers are eligible for both the LOTTO MAX Main Draw and MAXMILLIONS Draw(s), when held.
  • Eight-number Combination Play for LOTTO MAX costs $40 per draw.
  • Nine-number Combination Play for LOTTO MAX costs $180 per draw.
  • Play up to 10 draws in advance.
  • Draws are held every Friday. Tickets are sold until 10:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on draw nights.
How To Play
  • Using a LOTTO MAX Combination Play selection slip, select the eight or nine numbers from 1 to 49 you wish to combine by placing a mark in each of the appropriate boxes.
  • If you want to play for more than one draw, mark the number of draws in the Advance Play box.
  • If you would like to play ENCORE, mark the number of ENCORE plays you would like to add to your ticket. Each play costs $1. Click here to learn how to play ENCORE.
  • Match the numbers drawn to win. Seven numbers plus one bonus number are drawn for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw. Seven numbers are drawn for each MAXMILLIONS Draw, when held.

Eight-Number Combination Play

When you choose an eight-number Combination Play, the eight numbers are arranged in combinations of seven numbers, giving you eight unique selections.

For each such unique selection, you also receive two sets of computer-generated numbers, for a total of 24 seven-number combinations.

For example, if you select 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 as your eight-number selection, the eight combinations would be:

  1. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7
  2. 1-2-3-4-5-6-8
  3. 1-2-3-4-5-7-8
  4. 1-2-3-4-6-7-8
  5. 1-2-3-5-6-7-8
  6. 1-2-4-5-6-7-8
  7. 1-3-4-5-6-7-8
  8. 2-3-4-5-6-7-8

The same method of combining numbers is repeated for each of the two sets of computer-generated numbers.

You will receive a single ticket from the retailer that will show the numbers you have chosen and two additional sets of eight computer-generated numbers. All possible combinations, however, will be recorded in the central computer.

Nine-Number Combination Play

When you choose a nine-number Combination Play, the nine numbers are arranged in combinations of seven numbers, giving you 36 unique selections. For each such unique selection, you also receive two sets of computer-generated numbers, for a total of 108 seven-number combinations.

For example, if you choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 as your nine-number selection, the combinations would be:

  1. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7
  2. 1-2-3-4-5-6-9
  3. 1-2-3-4-5-7-9
  4. 1-2-3-4-5-6-8
  5. 1-2-3-4-5-7-8
  6. 1-2-3-4-5-8-9

...and so on until all possible 36 different selections are created from the original nine numbers selected.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR COMBINATION PLAY TICKET

On one $40 LOTTO MAX 8-number combination play ticket there will be three rows of numbers printed: your 8-number selection plus two further rows of 8-computer generated number selections. Likewise, on one $180 LOTTO MAX 9-number combination play ticket there will be three rows of numbers printed: your 9-number selection plus two further rows of 9-computer generated number selections. Using the appropriate 8 or 9-Number Combination Play Prize Chart below, you only need to check each row one time to determine your total prize share. Follow the three easy steps below to check your ticket.

  1. Check the numbers in your row against the seven winning LOTTO MAX numbers plus the Bonus number.
  2. Follow the first column in the 8 or 9-Number Combination Play Prize Chart below labeled "MATCHES" to find how many numbers you have matched. Read across that row to determine the number of prizes you have won in each category. The Prize Payout Chart outlines the percentage payout for each prize tier. In some cases in combination play, there can be multiple wins in a prize category.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to check the other two rows on your ticket.

For example: You played an 8-number combination play. You matched 6 numbers plus the Bonus number. Go down to row "6 + Bonus". Reading across shows you have won:

  • 6 prizes within the 5/7 prize category (5% of the Pools Fund)
  • Plus 1 prize of the 6/7 prize category (4% of the Pools Fund)
  • And 1 prize of the 6/7 + Bonus prize category (4% of the Pools Fund)

Repeat steps 1 and 2 to check the other two rows on your ticket.

The prize pool for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw and MAXMILLIONS Draw(s) is based on a pari-mutuel share. A pari-mutuel share is a calculation in which the total monies allocated to a prize category are divided by the total number of winners in that category. Sometimes, customers select certain number combinations more often than other number combinations, which may result in a greater number of winning tickets and a lower prize share. Some of the more popular combinations are based on sequences of numbers, vertical, horizontal or diagonal lines on selection slips, multiples of numbers, variations of historic dates or birth dates, etc. These combinations vary from draw to draw and change depending on customer play patterns.

LOTTO MAX Main Draw prizes and MAXMILLIONS prizes must be claimed within 12 months of the draw date.

LOTTO MAX Combination Play winning tickets purchased in Ontario can be redeemed only in Ontario.
