Regulation

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) assumed its new role as regulator of lottery gaming on January 1, 2008. All lottery retailers must be registered with the AGCO.

Through in-store visits by third-party auditors, OLG has been educating its retail partners with regards to proper validation procedures. In December 2007, compliance by OLG retailers exceeded 95% in some areas.

AGCO conducts interviews of all retailers, including their employees who sell and redeem lottery tickets, and all registrants of winning tickets $10,000 and over. AGCO also conducts interviews of all suspicious wins.
